Lady Elkers fall to Lady Tide

December 15, 2012

Jenni Thomas dribbles up the floor for the Ridgway Lady Elkers against Curwensville.

Ridgway girls basketball lost 70-28 to Curwensville Friday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Ridgway took an early lead as Jenni Thomas scored on a baseline jumper for a 2-0 Lady Elker lead. Dani Shirey also converted a jumper with 7:13 left in the first quarter to double the Ridgway lead to 4-0 lead.
"I'm happy with the improvement," Ridgway coach Stacy Kifer said. "We really did well with our defensive rebounding. The girls took a lot more shot attempts in this game. They actually doubled the shot attempts taken in the past. We're looking for small, little improvements every game. Things are going to get better. We had a good team we played against, that's all there is to it."
Curwensville would get seven straight points from Becca Johnson in the next two minutes as part of a 16-0 run for the Lady Tide. Johnson finished with 19 points for Curwensville.
