Kenneth W. Parks

Kenneth W. Parks, 97, of 706 Market St., Johnsonburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys.
He was born September 1, 1914 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Norman and Anna Mabel Pond Parks.
He married Madeline Mannella on October 5, 1947 in Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg. She survives.
He resided in Johnsonburg his entire life and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1933.
He was a member of the Johnsonburg United Methodist Church, Johnsonburg Senior Center, a lifetime member of the VFW, lifetime member of the Johnsonburg and Wilcox Sportsmen's Clubs, James W. Brown Lodge #675 F&AM of Johnsonburg for 70 years, where he was a past Master, and the Kane Country Club, where he was an avid golfer.
In 1983 while golfing with Sam Guaglianone in the Elk County Country Club Member-Guest Tournament, he shot a hole-in-one to take home a prize of $2,500. He loved to socialize, dancing and was an avid fisherman.
He was a WWII veteran, having served overseas with the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant with the 148th Infantry as an Infantry Unit Commander, for which he received the Philippine Liberation Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with two Battle Stars and one Arrow Head Combat Infantry Badge.
He was employed by Penntech papers of Johnsonburg for 45 years, retiring in 1977.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Christine, Mrs. Scott Bressler of Johnsonburg; two grandchildren, Joshua Elmquist and his wife Laura Jo and Daniel Elmquist and his wife Jami; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, Harold, Sam, Lawrence and Lynwood Parks, and a sister, Dolores Beauseigneur.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
Friends and family of Kenneth W. Parks are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Masonic services will follow the memorial service. The services will be conducted at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 301 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, with the Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor of Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, officiating. Interment will be at the Wardvale Methodist Cemetery in Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. until the service begins at 10:30 a.m.
Military honors will also be accorded by the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Detail members should assemble at the funeral home on Saturday morning at 10:15 a.m.
