Joseph V. Parana

Joseph V. Parana, 81, of 400 Rock St., Ridgway, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013.
He was born Jan. 22, 1932 in Johnsonburg, the son of the late Frank and Mary Raubenstrauch Parana.
He married Sara J. Ames, and she predeceased him on Oct. 15, 2012.
He attended Holy Rosary schools.
Mr. Parana was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed feeding the birds, hunting, playing cards, gardening, and collecting antiques. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. He will be missed terribly by his family.
He is survived by a daughter and her husband, Mrs. Mark Gross (Amy) of St. Marys; three sons, Justin Parana of Johnsonburg, Gerard Parana (Darce) of Kansas City, Kan., and Chad Parana (Sue) of Ridgway; two grandchildren, Nathan Parana and Jodi Parana, and a third grandchild is due in June; great-grandchildren Christian, Evan, Kiarra, Aaliyah, Bentley, and Bryce; a brother, Raymond Parana (Norma) of Johnsonburg; a sister, Theresa Casilio of Johnsonburg; a sister-in-law, Martha Hanson of Clarendon; and by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Andrew, Frank, and Steven Parana; and by three sisters, Mary Wilson, Irene Zelechoski, and Anna Malone.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph V. Parana will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Johnsonburg, today, Monday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. Celebrating will be Fr. David Wilson, pastor.
Interment will be in Oakmont Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home, Ridgway, for one hour prior to Mass.
Military honors will be accorded by the Ridgway Military Honor Detail.
Memorial donations may be made to the Elk County Humane Society, 1029 E. Eschbach Rd., St. Marys, Pa. 15857.
