Joseph A. Renaud
Joseph A. Renaud, 84, of 506 Sheridan Ave., Ridgway, died early Wednesday morning, Nov. 9, 2011, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie following a brief illness. He was born Jan. 26, 1927, in St. Marys, son of the late Joseph E. and Eva (Weis) Renaud. He married Clementine M. Fabiano on Feb. 7, 1948 in St. Leo Catholic Church in Ridgway, and she preceded him in death on April 26, 1998. He had resided in Ridgway for most of his life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, the American Legion, and the VFW. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. On summer evenings he enjoyed sitting on the benches in front of the Ridgway Courthouse with his friends known as 'the over the hill gang.' He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy in the Aleutian Islands and the South Pacific area. He also took part in the first atomic bombing in Bikini in the Marshall Islands and served aboard the USS Hughes DD410, one of the ships which took part in the bombing. He had been employed by the Elliott Co., Roselli's Garage, Servidea's, and Ridgway Color and Chemical. He is survived by two sons, Michael J. Renaud and his wife Susan, and Joseph G. Renaud and his wife Sharon, all of Ridgway; five grandchildren, Andrew J. Renaud, Brian J. Renaud, Amy M. Renaud, Joseph A. Renaud and Beth Ann Renaud; a great-granddaughter, Claire R. Renaud; and by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Jacqueline M. Renaud; a brother, David E. Renaud; a sister, Cecelia F. Machak; and a half-brother, James A. Renaud. A Mass of Christian Burial and Committal for Joseph A. Renaud will be celebrated at the St. Leo Catholic Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Fr. Brian E. Vossler, pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church. Military honors will be accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial detail. Burial will follow at St. Leo Cemetery.There will be no visitation.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Jacqueline A. Renaud National Honor Society Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Elk County Community Foundation at 111 Erie Ave., St. Marys, PA 15857; or to the Ridgway Ambulance Corp. at 120 North Broad St., Ridgway, PA 15853. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home.
