April 25, 2012

Johnsonburg's Shane Bickford returns a shot Wednesday in action against DuBois Central Catholic.

JOHNSONBURG – The Rams turned in a dominating 7-2 win Wednesday afternoon on the tennis courts in Johnsonburg against visiting DuBois Central Catholic, including a 4-for-5 showing in singles action.
In the first singles match, Johnsonburg's J.P. Allegretto defeated Elliott LaParne, 6-4, 6-3; at No. 2 singles, Johnsonburg's Mason Martonik won 6-1, 6-3 over over Tom Boyer; at No. 3 singles, Johnsonburg's Shane Bickford was pushed to the limit but pulled out a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win over Ben Trinkley; at No. 4 singles, Johnsonburg's Nate Fields beat Julie Fitzer 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-0); at No. 5 singles, DCC's Conner Park ruined the streak with a 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) win over Tommy Imbrogno.
In doubles action, Allegretto/Martonik won 8-0 over LaParne/Boyer; at No. 2 doubles, Fitzer/Trinkley won 8-2 over Bickford/Fields; at No. 3 doubles, Mason Walters and Imbrogno won 8-5 over Trinkley and Alex McKillop; at No. 4 doubles, Johnsonburg's Christian Cherry and Jeff Mann won 8-5 over Megan McKillop and Justine Cherry.
"It was a nice win especially after getting beat bad last week, these kids don't give up no matter the score," Johnsonburg boys varsity tennis coach Gregg Dauber said. "J.P. Allegretto and Mason Martonik are playing well at No. 1 doubles, that could be interesting at doubles districts. Shane Bickford came back form being down in the first set to win his first match of the year in singles.
"Mason Walters and Tommy Imbrogno also played well at No. 3 doubles so we are improving each match and it's nice to see. These kids practice hard and it pays off in the matches, and win or lose, they deserve it."
