Johnsonburg students pay homage to veterans

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Area School District held a special assembly Thursday morning in the high school auditorium to recognize their veterans.
"We gather to honor our veterans who served our country each and every day," said superintendent Dennis Crotzer. "I acknowledge their willingness to serve so we can enjoy freedom. The sacrifices they have made in their service is greatly appreciated."
The special guests were recognized following the Pledge of Allegiance and playing of the National Anthem by the high school band.
Guests included local VFW commander and World War II veteran Carl Imbrogno, Vietnam veteran Bob Jacobs, Alan Straneva of U.S. Navy, U.S. Navy and WWII veteran Bill Peterson, Eddie Muroski of U.S. Army, Fred Dubler of U.S. Army and National Guard, Jeff Elmquist of U.S. Army and Pennsylvania National Guard, U.S. Army and WWII veteran Louis Imbrogno, John Imbrogno of U.S. Navy, Korean War veteran George Guaglianone, Korean War veteran Elmer Ferragine, Pat Dellaquila of U.S. Army.
Other guests included President Judge Richard Masson, state Representative and U.S. Army Reserve member Matt Gabler, Elk County Commissioners Daniel Freeburg and June Sorg, District Judge Tony King, Johnsonburg police chief Bryan Parana, Jenny Richards, borough president Harriet Stahli, borough manager Mary Polaski, prothonotary David Frey, Bob Jacobs and recorder/register of deeds Pete Weidenboerner.
An award was presented to student Zachary Young in recognition of his Eagle Scout project where he refurbished about 900 cemetery plots.
"We feel humble we don't have more than just a plaque to give him in recognition for his endeavors," said Carl Imbrogno. "We wish you [Zachary] continued success in your life."
