Johnsonburg major league softball all-stars host Bradford

Johnsonburg pitcher Skylar Sherry whirls a pitch to the mound for the major league softball all-stars in action against Bradford.

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg major league softball all-stars lost 14-9 to Bradford in consolation bracket action Tuesday night at Knothole Recreational Park.
Bradford was strong early, scoring 13 of the 14 runs in the first three innings.
Shortstop Tiffany Bair opened the game with a walk, she would later score the game's first run. Second baseman Hannah Waddel walked and scored on a Johnsonburg error. Right fielder Autumn Heller walked and pinch runner Emily Reams would later come around for a 3-0 Bradford lead. First baseman Emily Smith also walked and would later score from third as catcher Amber Greeley reached on a dropped third strike.
Johnsonburg catcher Brianna Quiggle would reach base with a 1-out walk in the first inning. After a 6-3 groundout, first baseman Jensen Furlong would reach on an infield single. Shortstop Makayla Hoffman then loaded the bases on catcher's interference. Third baseman Emily Dillinger walked with the bases full which brought Quiggle around from third for Johnsonburg's first run. Second baseman Raelee Stahli hit into a fielder's choice which plated Furlong and cut the margin to 4-2.
Bradford matched the 4-spot in the first inning with four runs in the second. Left fielder Alyssa Shelander walked and later scored as she made her way around the bases on wild pitches. Bair walked and also later crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Waddel walked while Heller reached on a Johnsonburg error. First baseman Rachel Wolfe reached on a Johnsonburg error as well which plated Waddel and put Bradford ahead 7-2. After a strikeout, Greeley walked to load the bases and Bradford pitcher Camryn Thomas also reached on a walk which scored Heller from third for an 8-2 lead.
Johnsonburg also matched its first-inning output by adding a pair of runs in the second inning. Quiggle singled and she later scored on a single from Johnsonburg pitcher Skylar Sherry. Sherry scored on a single from Furlong as Johnsonburg trailed 8-4 after two innings.
Bradford continued its strong offensive play with a 5-run outburst in the third inning. Reams led off with a walk. Bair was able to hustle out a single. A pair of Johnsonburg errors would bring Reams around for a run and Bair was able to circle the bases to push the Bradford lead to 10-4. Bradford substitute Alicia Burrows walked and later scored. Smith singled and crossed the plate. Bradford also added another to take a 13-4 lead entering the home half of the third.
Johnsonburg would close the margin in the fourth inning with three runs. Abie Zilkofski singled and Amanda Williams reached on a fielder's choice. With the runners on second and third, Bradford made an error into the outfield which scored both runs. Sherry singled and moved to second on a 2-3 groundout. Sherry scored as shortstop Makayla Hoffman would reach on a Bradford error. Sherry's run put the lead to 13-7 after four innings.
Bradford added a run in the fifth inning before Johnsonburg would score two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Williams singled and scored on a single from Quiggle. Quiggle would touch the plate on a fielder's choice from Sherry for the game's first run.
Johnsonburg finishes all-star play with its second loss in the District 10 tournament. Bradford will move on to host Warren on Thursday for a 6 p.m. game.
