John George Hetrick

John George Hetrick, 85, of Caledonia, died Monday, March 19, 2012 at Christ the King Manor of DuBois.
He was born May 8, 1926 in Caledonia, son of the late Russell J. and Hilda L. (Johnson) Hetrick. He married Kathleen Wonderling, who predeceased him on Feb. 27, 2004.
John lived all of his life in Bennetts Valley. He was a coal miner for Moose Run Coal Mine for 15 years and worked at Pure Carbon as a drill press operator for 23 years. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, Company E, 242nd Infantry Regiment. He was a member of the Black Panther Division serving in Northern France, the Rhineland and the Battle of The Bulge.
He was a member of the Caledonia United Methodist Church, lifetime member and past commander of the Bennetts Valley American Legion Post 978 and member of the Burial Detail, where he had served as chaplain. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper.
He is survived by three children, John J. (Barbara) Hetrick of Johnsonburg, William R. Hetrick (Bonnie Bogle) of DuBois, and Susan Palumbo of DuBois; eight grandchildren, Michael, Marc, Amy, Russell, Nathan and Brad Hetrick, and Matthew and Lindsey Palumbo; three great-grandchildren, Marshall and Maggie Hetrick, and Ethan Palumbo; and a brother, David (Vera) Hetrick of Byrnedale.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son-in-law, Scott Palumbo.  
Funeral services for John George Hetrick will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Caledonia United Methodist Church, Caledonia, with Pastor Timothy Rogers officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Bennetts Valley Legion Burial Detail. Interment will take place in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Weedville.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield, and Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Caledonia United Methodist Church.
