John E. Darnell III, age 41, of 514 Cherry Ave., Ridgway, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, Feb. 29, 2012, at Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born May 23, 1970, in Ridgway, son of John E. Darnell Jr. and Shirley A. (Saline) Darnell.
He had resided in Ridgway for most of his life and was Protestant by faith. He was a graduate of the Elkins High School in Elkins, W. Va. He was a member of the American Legion Post 208, the VFW, and the Elks Club. He served in the U.S. Army and was a peacetime veteran. He had been employed at Metaldyne for 20 years.
He is survived by his children, Bryant Luchs, Brianna Frontera, Devin and Dustin Piurkoski, John E. Darnell IV, Shaina, and Madison Darnell; his father and stepmother, John E. Darnell Jr. and his wife Mary of Lancaster, N.C.; his mother, Shirley A. Darnell of St. Marys; two sisters, Lynn Valdez of Georgetown, Fla., and Michelle Carlson and her husband Donald of Ridgway; his paternal grandmother, Edna Petrie of Bethlehem; several nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion, Renee Reed.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Colleen E. Melzer; his paternal grandfather, John E. Darnell Sr.; and his maternal grandparents, James and Annie Saline.
Funeral and Committal Services for John E. Darnell III will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home on Saturday at 10 a.m. with military honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial Detail. Officiating will be James Kitelinger, Minister of the Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 p.m. Donations may be made to the Darnell Family with Michelle Carlson at 136 Sherman Ave., Ridgway, Pa. 15853.
