John E. Charleson

John E. Charleson, 73, of 240 High Ave., Ridgway, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 8, 1939 in Reynoldsville, son of the late Harry N. and Mary Ann (Anderson) Charlesen.
He married Nancy A. Knight on May 12, 1962 in Queen of the World Catholic Church in St. Marys.
He resided in Ridgway for the last 67 years and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, a member of the Lions Club, the Elks, and the Eagles. He had also been a board member of the Ridgway Ambulance Corp.
He had attended the Ridgway High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a peacetime veteran.
He had been employed by Windstream for 31 years.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy A. Charleson, of Ridgway; one daughter, Barbara A. Charleson of Ridgway; one son, Bernard P. Charleson of Laurinburg, N.C.; five grandchildren, Brittany, Tyler, Alexis, Bryce, and Nickolas; two brothers, Harry J. Charlesen and his wife Catherine of Brockway, and Robert E. Charlesen and his wife Cheryl of Strasburg; one sister, Nancy Hooten of Brockway; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded by death by one brother, Bernard Charlesen; and three sisters, Becky Anderson, Christine Thomas, and Lovey Tuberson.
A Memorial Mass for John E. Charleson will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church on Thursday at 11 a.m., with military honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial Detail. Officiating will be Fr. Brian E. Vossler, pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Leo Cemetery. Friends will be received in the gathering space at St. Leo Catholic Church on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Community Nurses, Inc. or to the Ridgway Ambulance Corp.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home.
