Janice E. Shope

Janice E. Shope, 71, of 1020 LeMans Rd., St. Marys, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 12, 2011 at her residence.
She was born Nov. 15, 1939, in Daguschonda, daughter of the late Ralph and Ruth Yonker Gorton.
On Sept. 6, 1958, in St. Benedict's Church in Daguschonda, she married David A. Shope, who survives.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Ridgway High School, Class of 1957. She was employed at the St. Marys Job Center for over 18 years, retiring in 2000.
Mrs. Shope was a member of the Queen of the World Church. She enjoyed golfing, traveling to her home in Florida, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Kathy Kunes and her husband Glen of St. Marys, Becky Assalone and her husband Mark of Falls Creek, Judy Shope of Orangeburg, S.C. and Jennifer Shope-Martin and her husband Justin of Erie; seven grandchildren, Andy Kunes, Jessica Krug, Leslie Hanes, Ryan Kunes, Riley Assalone, Anthony Martin and Gabriel Martin; six great-grandchildren, Veronica Krug, Janelle Krug, Ashten Krug, Allie Kunes, Jake Kunes and MaKayla Hanes; two sisters, Joyce Comino and her husband Donald of Johnsonburg and Sue Gorton of Daguschonda; two brothers, James Gorton and his wife Leah of Daguschonda and Jerry Gorton of State College; a sister-in-law, Rose Anne Gorton of St. Marys; and her mother-in-law, Rose Garbic of St. Marys.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Anthony Shope, at birth; a granddaughter, Emily Nicole Kunes; and a brother, Richard Gorton.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Janice E. Shope will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Saturday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
