Jack D. Steis

Jack D. Steis, 87, a resident of the DuBois Nursing Home and formerly of 313 Cook Ave., Ridgway, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010 at the DuBois Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 12, 1923, in Ridgway, son of the late Walter and Clarabel Brunner Steis.
On April 8, 1948, in the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Johnsonburg, he married Ethel Klawuhn, who preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 2003.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Ridgway schools. He was a retired employee of PennDOT, retiring in 1985 after 22 years of service. He also was a partner in the former Quaker State Court Service on Main Street in Ridgway, and was a former salesman for the General Motors Auto Dealership in Ridgway. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Ridgway, a decorated veteran serving in WWII in the U.S. Army, a member of the Freemasons, Ridgway Elks, Laurel Run Gun Club and a retired member of the Ridgway Fire Department.
He is survived by two daughters, Elaine M. Steis of Ridgway and Susan J. (Mrs. Thomas C.) Saline of Ridgway; three granddaughters, Christine Hollis, Jennifer Morell and Kerry E. Saline; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn Fornal of Port St. Lucie, Fla.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty J. Duffee.
Family and friends of Jack D. Steis are invited to attend a memorial service at the First Lutheran Church in Ridgway on Sunday, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Eric Hart officiating.
Full military rites will be accorded by the Ridgway Military Honor Detail.
There will be no visitation.

The Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
