Historical house featured in PA Great Outdoors magazine

Photo by Gian DeLoia – The George Dickinson home was originally established in 1855. Currently, the home is owned by Tim Leathers and Rob Robbins who restored the property after purchasing it in 1997.

Founded in 1855, the George Dickinson home still remains.
The home began construction in 1854 and later was completed in 1855. Dickinson built it because his original home flooded.
Born in Goshen, Conn. in 1807, he moved to Ridgway in 1832 and built his first homestead where Holiday Financial is currently located. After numerous floods, Dickinson built the current home across the street in front of his barn. The home housed five generations of Dickinsons until current owners, Tim Leathers and Rob Robbins bought the property in 1997. Leathers and Robbins restored the property to its original luster while adding modern day necessities. Upon purchase, the outside of the home was painted butter yellow and the interior was covered with authentic colors to the original era of the home. The house is 3,600 square feet and contains 12 rooms. The layout is as it was in 1855.
Leathers said the home’s style is Greek revival, and is one of the few that are restored.
“It is the only restored Greek revival structure in the county,” Leathers said. “It has many Greek revival characteristics such as large corner pilasters, oversized fluted columns, large third floor pediment fronts, and a square (more masculine) structure; these are all elements of Greek revival architecture.”
Being over 150 years old, Leathers says this house is a key component to Ridgway’s history.
“The house is native to this area,” said Leathers. “It gives you a sense of what it was like to live 150 years ago. It is one of Ridgway’s most beloved homes.”
