Grey Knights welcome new members

JOHNSONBURG – The Grey Knights Drum & Bugle Corps of Johnsonburg is on the lookout for fresh faces to join the team.
The Corps offers an opportunity to members of all ages to perform in a number of parades and special events.
No music experience? Grey Knights Music Instructor Eugene Sallack says not to worry. All that is needed is a love for music and a little patience.
"They do not have to be brass players, it can for anyone that has any interest in music," said drum major Bud Speaker. "If they like music, the Drum & Bugle Corps is a tremendously fun experience for the whole summer. You do not have to have music experience because Gene [Sallack] is an excellent teacher. You do not even have to be able to read music."
Sallack said if you can count to four then you can be taught how to play.
The Corps is "desperately" in need of American guard members.
"It's the easiest thing to do in drum corps, but it's extremely hard to get people to come out and march in the American guard," Speaker said.
All that is required to join is a pair of black pants and shoes - the Corps will supply the rest including the instrument of your choice.
The Grey Knights were reorganized after a short layover in 2009.
"We were reorganized for the Bicentennial in Johnsonburg and had a busy 2010 and 2011 season," Speaker said.
The next practice will be held on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Community Center in Johnsonburg. Practices will be held every other Sunday at the same time and come to end the first week of September.
