The 2nd Annual Georgia L. Piccirillo "Go Strong for Georgia" Memorial Bike/Run/Walk will be held Saturday, June 9 at the trailhead of the Rails to Trails in Ridgway.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the trail. Participants will bike, run or walk their own distance as this is a free, non-timed event.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the trailhead, located at the corner of Water Street and Center Street in Ridgway; the event will start at 10:30 a.m.
A light lunch will be provided at no cost near mile marker one. Signs will be posted. Donations may be made in Georgia's memory to the TriCounty Rails to Trails the day of the event or you may mail to: TriCounty Rails to Trails, P.O. Box 115, Ridgway, Pa. 15853.
Patrons may also purchase a memorial "Go Strong for Georgia" bracelet for a minimum donation of $1. As the proceeds go toward the trail, the money will be used to offset costs associated with maintenance, upkeep, and insurance.
Georgia passed away unexpectedly April 25, 2010. Her passion was riding her mountain bike on the local Rails to Trails where she felt closest to nature and those she loved: her family, friends, students, and God. She looked to nature as God's superb work of art and it is where she felt closest to him.
Georgia biked 27,874 miles on the Rails to Trails from 1997-2010.
The event will take place regardless of any weather conditions that may develop.
