ST. MARYS – St. Marys Area Lady Dutch senior Adair Gennocro became the school's newest 1,000 point scorer on Monday evening as the Lady Dutch picked up a 42-10 victory over the Ridgway Lady Elkers at the SMAHS Dutch Oven. Gennocro entered the game needing just three points to reach the 1,000 mark and achieved that honor near the end of the opening quarter. She was 1-for-2 from the foul line with 2:29 left before the end of the quarter and then sank a field goal to score the final two points with 1:48 remaining. Gennocro's teammates embraced her on the court and the crowd gave herba standing ovation as St. Marys Area head coach Leona Hoohuli presented her with a game ball in honor of the occasion.
Hoohuli indicated that it was nice to see Gennocro score her 1,000th point at home, especially on a night when St. Marys' elementary and junior high girls' basketball players were in attendance to be acknowledged for their efforts this season. Gennocro's accomplishment serves as an example to them of what they too have the potential to accomplish, Hoohuli noted.
