Facebook users asked to vote for Elk Regional's 'Pink Glove Dance' video

ST. MARYS – In order to promote breast cancer awareness and honor those who have had the disease, Elk Regional Health Center (ERHC) produced a video featuring employees from throughout the Elk Regional Health System performing the "Pink Glove Dance." The video, which was unveiled at ERHC's "Pink Palooza" event held on Sept. 22, is eligible to win $10,000 to be used for promoting breast cancer awareness in Elk County and surrounding communities. Pink gloves, manufactured by the company Medline, were worn in the dance because pink is the color associated with breast cancer and awareness efforts. “The Pink Glove Dance drew everyone at Elk Regional closer together. When we first started thinking about doing a Pink Glove Dance, everyone was excited and eager to participate," said Charlotte Floravit, ERHC's public relations director. "Hundreds of people participated in our video, including physicians, volunteers and employees at every level of the organization. Some of our employees are cancer survivors, so having the opportunity to show support for others who are fighting cancer meant a lot to them. Dancing together was an experience we won’t soon forget.”The Pink Glove Dance was originally established at Providence St. Vincent Health Center in Portland, Ore. and has become a national phenomenon, with healthcare employees across the country performing the dance and submitting their videos to Medline's official Pink Glove Dance website at http://pinkglovedance.com. “We were one of two hospitals in Pennsylvania to film a Pink Glove Dance and submit the video in a contest with the hope of winning money to support breast cancer awareness and screening initiatives here at Elk Regional," Floravit said.
