Eugene R. "Herbie" Tassone

Eugene R. "Herbie" Tassone, 86, of 526 Penn St., Johnsonburg, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Aug. 16, 1925 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Salvatore "Sam" and Ellen Vavala Tassone. On April 26, 1952, in Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, he married Agnes Gapinski, who survives.
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and was a 1944 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Church, Holy Name Society, Johnsonburg Senior Center, and the Knights of Columbus.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and the Korean War, serving overseas as a Corporal with the HQ Co 9224 TSU, where he was a Flight Traffic Clerk and Supply Clerk.
He was Penntech Papers of Johnsonburg for 40 years, retiring in 1990. He had also worked at Stackpole Carbon Co. for several years.
In addition to his wife at home, he is survived by two daughters, Jo Ellen, Mrs. David Sallack of Harrisburg, and Jeanne Wolf of Camp Hill; three grandchildren, Emily, Mrs. Antonio Nieves, Nicholas Sallack and Allison Wolf; a brother, Angelo Tassone of Johnsonburg; and by many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph "Fritz" and Stephen "Chippy" Tassone; and a sister, Rose Tassone.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Eugene R. "Herbie" Tassone will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor. Interment will take place in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m.
