Esther Kathryn Sicheri

August 19, 2014

Esther Kathryn Sicheri, 93, of Twinridge Lane, Richmond, Va., formerly of Kersey, died Aug. 6, 2014.
She was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Kersey, the daughter of the late John and Teresa Lavella Astori. On Aug. 2, 1947, she married Gustav Sicheri who preceded her in death in 2003.
Esther received her early education in the Horton Township schools. After graduating from Seton Hill College, Greensburg, she taught music in the Kersey, Bennetts Valley, and St. Marys schools for 30 years. Esther retired from teaching in 1970, but that did not end her involvement in music or other community endeavors. St. Boniface Church in Kersey acknowledged her 25 years of being their adult choir director and organist with a Volunteer Service Award. Fox Township named her as their Outstanding Citizen of The Year in 1985.
During her lifetime she served in many capacities throughout the Elk County area including chairperson of the entertainment committee of the Elk County Fair, a member of the Elk County Child Welfare Service and on the board of the Elk County Children and Youth Agency. She was a member of the hospital Pastoral Care Committee, a volunteer at the local Food Pantry, and she was also a trained tutor with the Elk County Literacy Council for Adults.
Esther is remembered not only for her musical talent but for her willingness to share those gifts whenever the opportunity arose. She provided entertainment for countless local nursing homes, social gatherings and service organizations.
She is survived by two daughters, Josie and her husband, Paul Dolci, of Richmond, Va., and Ann and her partner, Alan Densmore, of Danbury, Conn.; four granddaughters, Sara Breindel and her husband Raj Kukreja of Denver, Colo., Elizabeth Breindel of Denver, Colo., Rebecca Dillard and husband Matthew of Richmond, Va., and Tressa Breindel, of Boulder, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren, Sophia and Alexander Kukreja, and Matthew and Gus Dillard.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Penvose, Carolyn Divens and Marguerite Astori; and four brothers, Frank Lavella, Andy Astori, Tony Astori, and John Astori.
Family and friends of Esther Sicheri are invited to a funeral mass to be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church, Kersey, on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James Faluszczak presiding. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Boniface Church Music Program.
