Ella Mae Powley, 94, of Bradford Manor, Bradford, formerly of Wilcox, died Sunday morning, Dec. 16, 2012 at Bradford Manor following a brief illness.
Powley was born Aug. 11, 1918 in Sergeant, daughter of the late Roy and Tirzah Reid Stanley.
She married the late George M. Powley on Oct. 22, 1938 in St. Nicholas Church, Sheffield; he died June 27, 2001.
She resided in Wilcox most of her life. She graduated from Wilcox High School in 1936. She was a member of the Wilcox Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Dorcus Circle. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time at her great-great-granddaughter's first birthday party. She was also an avid reader and word puzzle solver.
She was employed by the Stackpole Carbon Company, Kane Community Hospital and Elk Regional Health Center as a nurse's aide.
She is survived by two sons, Gary Powley and his wife Cora of Warren, and George Powley and his wife Priscilla of Russell; three grandchildren, Linda Powley, Gary Powley and his wife Denean, and Michael Powley and his wife Donna; nine great-grandchildren, Jesse Steffan, Nathan and James Benninger, Matthew, Mitchell and Mikel Tuzynski, Ella Jo, Alexandra and Lucas Powley; one great-great-granddaughter, Amaya Benninger; two brothers, Ronald Stanley and his wife Shirley of Wilcox, and Donald Stanley of Tillar, Alaska; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Audrey Stanley, Joan Swartz and Helen Markert; and two brothers; Robert and Andrew "Bud" Stanley.
Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service for Ella Mae Powley to be conducted at the Wilcox Presbyterian Church on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Mark Cantaral, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Ridgway. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg.
