NEW BETHLEHEM – There weren't many defensive stands Friday night but a Redbank Valley stand has the Bulldogs moving on.
A Nick Shoemaker interception in the final minute preserved a 31-26 win over Ridgway Friday night at Redbank Valley High School.
Redbank Valley had a slim 28-26 lead and took over with just over six minutes remaining in the second half. The Bulldogs were able to convert a pair of third-down conversion to drain much of the remaining clock and force the Elkers to take all three of their timeouts. On 3rd-and-4 at the Ridgway 44, quarterback Jake Dougherty ran for six yards and a Redbank Valley first down. Three plays later, Redbank Valley converted again as Daughterty ran for 14 yards and another first down. The Bulldogs were content to run three plays up the middle for little yards before Redbank Valley kicker Zane Watson nailed a 35-yard field goal to give the Bulldogs a 31-26 lead with 39 seconds left.
