Elk County Fair kicks off with opening ceremony

KERSEY – Rainy weather did not deter a crowd from gathering at the Elk County Fair on Tuesday evening for the annual opening ceremony. Various local and county officials were seated onstage and introduced as some gave a brief statement about the fair.
Crowned as the 2014 Elk County Fair Queen was Alana Stauffer, 18, of St. Marys and a recent graduate of Elk County Catholic High School. She is the daughter of Joseph and Kimberly Stauffer and plans to attend Mt. Aloysius College majoring in nursing. The Junior Queen is Carley Chiesa, 14, of Johnsonburg. Carley is the daughter of Mike and Denise Chiesa and will be a ninth-grade student at Johnsonburg Area High School. The runner-up was Alexis Swanson of Kersey. The Princess is Torie Swackhammer, 10, of St. Marys. Torie is the daughter of Emily Swanson and Justin Swackhammer. The runner-up is Gracie Bon.
