Electricity workshop offered in February

January 18, 2012

Elk County commissioners Tuesday morning announced a "Shopping for Electricity" workshop being offered by Penn State Cooperative Extension scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 2, in Ridgway.
"This would be a good asset for community education," said Elk County Commissioner Daniel R. Freeburg.
The class is being offered in conference room No. 2 of the Elk County Courthouse Annex starting at 1 p.m. Feb. 2.
A second class is scheduled is scheduled for 6 p.m. the same day in the classroom of the 911 Center in Smethport.
Since the beginning of 2011, each electricity customer in Pennsylvania, except for the customers of rural electric cooperatives, has had the opportunity to select an electricity supplier that will be responsible for the generation and transmission of their electricity.
According to James A. Clark, an extension educator through the McKean-Potter Unit of the Penn State Cooperative Extension, there may be opportunities for significant savings for those who shop for an electricity supplier and especially for those who increase their energy efficiency.
Pre-registration is required to attend either of these sessions and can be done by calling or emailing Clark at the Penn State Extension office in Smethport at 814-887-5613 or jac20@psu.edu.
