It took almost two and a half hours, but Alan Brennen of Elk County Catholic captured the District 9 Class AA singles tennis championship by defeating his teammate Drew Meyer in three sets.
Meyer won the first set by a 6-4 score. Brennen came back to knot the match at one-all by winning the second set 6-3. The two battled in the third set with Brennen coming out on top by a 7-5 score.
"This was an excellent match and I am very proud of both young men," said ECCHS coach Aaron Straub.
"They battled for two hours and 20 minutes and you can't ask for anything more in a tennis match. Both kids worked very hard," said Straub.
