ECC Crusaders edge Ridgway boys golf on tiebreaker
ST. MARYS – Elk County Catholic edged Ridgway boys golf, defeating the Elkers via the first tiebreaker in a match held Wednesday afternoon at Bavarian Hills Golf Course. The two teams tied at 201 strokes with their top five scorers so the match went to the first tiebreaker which would have been the sixth-best team score. Kristy Hanes shot a 44 while Matt Aiello had a 47 which turned out to be the difference between a win and a loss. Elliott Struble took medalist honors with a 38 for the Crusaders. Drew Meyer carded a 39. Jess Jaynes and Alan Brennen finished with a 41 while Mitchell Struble finished at a 42 to round out the top five. After Hanes' 44, Bruno Cavalline carded a 45 and Brandon Schlimm finished at 46. Josh Roselli and Jake Klawuhn led Ridgway with a 39. T.J. Schlimm had a 40 and Josh Mitchell finished at 41. Jesse Reynolds rounded out the top five with a 42. After Aiello's 47, Mitchell Stark had a 48 and Mitchell Gilmore finished at 49. "An excellent match between the two best teams in District 9," Ridgway coach Dave Zawatski said. "Congratulations to Elk County Catholic as they were the better team [yesterday]." Ridgway (6-1) is scheduled for a home match with Kane at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Laurel Mill Golf Course. ECC is scheduled to host Bradford at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon at Bavarian Hills.
