Doris V. Mitchell

Doris V. Mitchell, 81, of Ridgway, passed away Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 27, 1930, in DuBois, the daughter of Harry and Ellen Pendleton Cook. She married Paul A. Mitchell on June 25, 1949, they were married 62 years.
Doris was a long-time Ridgway resident. She was a very active member of the Ridgway Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of their Church Stewards, the Church Board, a Sunday  School teacher and a member of the choir. She was  also active with the Church Mission Trips. She traveled to various countries such as Africa, Venezuela, Guatemala and Costa Rica. She was employed at the Home Telephone Co., helped run her family logging business  and she was a licensed beautician. Doris had an impressive green thumb, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting, baking and was an avid entertainer.
She is survived by her husband, Paul of Ridgway; three children, Debra Merritt of Ridgway, her sons Michael, Aaron, Mathew, Andrew and her 10 grandchildren with one great-granddaughter, Steven Mitchell of Ridgway, his children Katherine, Kristen, Emily, Steven and Alyssa and two granddaughters, and Ellen Tripodi of Brockport, her children Richard and Donna with two granddaughters; two sisters, Jeanette Peoples (Robert) of DuBois and Jane Anderson (Vincent) of DuBois, also survive.
She was predeceased by her parents; a son, Paul L. Mitchell his surviving children Robert, Tammy, William and Ezekiel  with eight grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Lizbeth Mitchell; a son-in-law, Stephen Merritt; and by two sisters, Grace Cook and Sara Hendricks.
Funeral Services for Doris Mitchell will be held in the Ridgway Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be her former pastor Gary Smith. Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Frostburg, Pa. Friends will be received at the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to Pinecrest Manor, 763 Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys, PA 15857, Ridgway Church of the Nazarene 27 Metoxet St. Ridgway, Pa. 15853 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1128 State St., Ste. 301, Erie, PA 16501 (http://www.alz.org.net Tribute Doris V.
