Donald R. "Captain" Allegretto, 69, of 879 Rasselas Rd., Wilcox, died Friday morning, April 13, 2012 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Aug. 25, 1942 in Buffalo, N.Y., son of the late Raymond and Betty Sample Allegretto. On Aug. 5, 1967 in St. Ann's Church, Wilcox, he married Katherine "Kaki" Gelsick, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of Rasselas, having attended Wilcox and Johnsonburg schools. He was a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Army, serving overseas as an SP4 with Co. B, 166th Eng. Bn.
He retired from Carbon-Graphite of St. Marys after 18 years. He had formerly worked for Eagle Express Trucking of St. Marys and Paper City Transfer of Johnsonburg. He was also a former self-employed welder.
He was a member of St. Ann's Church in Wilcox, the Wilcox Lodge F&AM #571, Shriners, Wilcox Sportsmen's Club, Wilcox American Legion, and Central Hose Co. in Johnsonburg. He was a former Wilcox volunteer fireman. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and hunting.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Donald R. Allegretto and his wife Carol of Jacksonville, N.C., David J. Allegretto and his wife Judy of Johnsonburg, and Paul E. Allegretto and his wife Krista of Wilcox; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Samantha, Timothy, Sabrina, John Paul, Andrea, Rocco, and Gianna Allegretto; one brother, Thomas Allegretto of Wilcox; three sisters, Dorothy A. Allegretto of Wilcox, Holly, Mrs. Gilbert Hamilton of Hutchins, and Hope, Mrs. Jeff Hawkins of Pueblo, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Donald R. "Captain" Allegretto will be conducted on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, with Pastor David J. Wilson officiating.
Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Rasselas. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Monday morning at 9:15 a.m. A Masonic funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday evening at 5:45 p.m.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
