Daniel A. Thorwart

Daniel A. Thorwart, 83, of 2720 Wilcox Road, Johnsonburg, died Saturday night, July 12, 2014, at the Lutheran Home at Kane following a short illness.
He was born Sept. 30, 1930 in Ridgway, son of the late Luke J. and Johanna E. Polaski Thorwart.
On Jan. 27, 1951, he married Virginia Shaffer by Fr. John A. Kirk and she survives
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and attended Holy Rosary School and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1948.
He attended Nazareth Lutheran Church, Wilcox. He was a former Packmaster for Pack 82 Boy Scouts of America sponsored by Holy Rosary Church, he was also a member of the Bucktail Council Executive Board. In 1969 he was elected president of the Johnsonburg Area School District and was the vice president of the local chapter of the U.S. Jaycees. He loved animals, especially dogs. His constant companion Dixie will surely miss him. He enjoyed outdoor sports especially hunting and snowmobiling. Dan loved the Lord, his wife and family. They were all the world to him.
After high school he went to work for the family-owned Whistle Bottling Company which later became the Canada Dry Bottling Co. and Thorco Bottling Co. In 1979, Thorco Bottling Co celebrated 60 years of bottling soft drinks. After the retirements of Dan’s father Luke Thorwart, the founder of the business, and brothers Edward and Larry, Dan became president of Thorco Bottling Co. and built a new Thorco Bottling Plant in Wilcox with an estimated population served by Thorco, Inc. products of 1.3 million. Dan retired from the bottling business in 1984.
In addition to his wife at home, he is survived by three sons, Daniel Thorwat and his wife Barbara of Johnsonburg, William Thorwart and his wife Beth of Johnsonburg, and James Thorwart and his wife Juanita of Tacoma, Wash.; 16 grandchildren, Jennifer, Mrs. Joshua Martin, Daniel and Adam Thorwart, Kaelyn, Mrs. Corey Schacta, Julie, Mrs. Joshua McDuff, Rachel, Mrs. Jason Wells, William Thorwart and his wife Jennifer, Lisa, Mrs. Thomas Trexler, Shannon, Mrs. Martin Riebe, Shelby, Mrs. Joshua Cox, Stacy, Mrs. Esdras Bank, Kimberly, Mrs. Matthew Lantz, Juanita Thorwart, Jessica, Mrs. Gregory Gonzales and James and Heather Thorwart; 35 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rita Logue, and a sister-in-law, Mary Thorwart, both of Johnsonburg. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward and Lawrence Thorwart; and his sisters, Irene Cheadle, Geraldine Cadigan and Marie Deibler.
A Funeral Service for Daniel A. Thorwart will be conducted at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Wilcox on Tuesday, July 15 at 12:30 p.m.
Officiating will be Rev. David Pflieger, Chaplain of the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg on Tuesday morning from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
