Johnsonburg's J.P. Allegretto is shown returning the serve of ECC's Drew Meyer during the second singles match Wednesday afternoon at Benzinger Park in St. Marys. Allegretto won the match 6-2, 6-3.

The Elk County Catholic Crusader tennis squad picked up an 8-1 victory over the Johnsonburg Rams on Wednesday afternoon in matches played at Benzinger and Memorial parks in St. Marys
"[It was] a good win for us today," said ECC coach Nick Caggiano. "We were taking nice shots and working on improving on some areas."
At first singles, Crusader Ben Wortman defeated Mason Martonik 6-1, 6-0. At second singles, Drew Meyer fell to Johnsonburg's J.P. Allegretto 2-6, 3-6. At third singles, Shane Mancuso picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win for ECC over Shane Bickford.
"Ben and Shane looked in fine form once again and are playing solid, consistent tennis," Caggiano said. "Drew had a bit of an off day today. J.P. Allegretto is a tough opponent who will make you play a few more balls. Drew did a good job of putting up a fight in the second set, saving a few match points."
At fourth singles ECC's Scott Reichard defeated Nate Fields 6-3, 7-5. At fifth singles Aaron Meier also notched a victory for the Crusaders, downing Tommy Imbrogno 6-0, 6-1.
"Scott Reichard and Aaron also had good singles wins for us," Caggiano said.
At first doubles, the Crusader duo of Ben Wortman and Shane Mancuso defeated J.P. Allegretto and Mason Martonik 8-4. At second doubles, ECC's Scott Krellner and Alex Herzing beat Shane Bickford and Nate Fields 8-4. At third doubles, Alan Brennan and Brent Polaski recorded an 8-3 win for ECC over Tommy Imbrogno and Mason Walter. At fourth doubles, Crusaders Austin Minard and Brian Nguyen beat Christian Cherry and Jeff Mann 8-2.
"We had accurate shot-making and team energy from Ben and Shane at first doubles. Scott Krellner and Alex had some good shots when the moment came for them. At third doubles, Alan and Brent played with strategy to see them to the win. Brian and Austin really came through for us early at fourth," Caggiano said. "We are continuing to practice and work hard to improve every day."
