Elk County's gun permit system in the sheriff's department recently crashed, thus placing over 250 applications in limbo according to Chief Deputy Sheriff Theresa Merritt.
The computer system's hard drive "fried" recently and "people cannot physically get a gun permit" from the county's sheriff's department.
"You can send in your renewals and we’re still keeping the process running, but once the computer is up and running, we’ll call everyone who has been approved and everyone who has been approved prior and turned away, and we’ll notify them of when they can get their permits," Merritt said. "It’s not that our system isn’t connecting, we really just have no computer to run it."
