Constable Ziegler could be answer to budget crisis

December 14, 2012

Photo by Joseph Bell – Dave Ziegler, a Pa. State Constable, said Thursday that he may be able to help the county save money after the sheriff's office was reported as exceeding its 2012 budget.

A new dimension has been added to the ongoing battle between the county's board of commissioners and the sheriff's department.
With the sheriff's department reportedly over budget by $9,000 by the year's end, the board of commissioners reportedly will not cover the overage and Elk County Sheriff Jeffrey C. Krieg filed a civil complaint on behalf of his department against the board.
Tom Wagner, solicitor for the board of commissioners, filed the board's response Wednesday afternoon in the county's prothonotary's office; Shawn McMahon, solicitor for the sheriff's department, filed a response shortly thereafter. A hearing is scheduled today at 1:30 p.m. in the main courtroom of the Elk County Courthouse.
An unexplored development is the possible assistance by Dave Ziegler, a Pa. State Constable who was appointed back in February.
