Connelly takes the reins as school board president

The Ridgway Area School District Board of Directors held a reorganizational meeting in the Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School Library prior to their regular meeting Monday night.
Board member Lisa Connelly was elected as board president.
Board member William Seely nominated Gloria Almquist-Shull and Lucy Bobby for president, all of which respectfully declined the nomination.
"Thank you, but I wish to decline," Almquist-Shull said. "I am away in the winter and I don't feel I could do the job justice, but thank you for the nomination."
The board voted unanimously in favor of electing Connelly as president.
The board voted unanimously in favor of electing Gloria Almquist-Shull as the vice president.
Seely nominated Cindy Allegretto as vice president. Allegretto also respectfully declined the nomination.
New board members Dave Parsons and Karen Lundin and existing members Kathy Lampman, Johna Holtz and Lisa Connelly were administered the Oath of Office at the start of the reorganizational meeting.
During the regular meeting, superintendent Dr. Michael O'Brien presented a plaque to board member Fred Streich for his four years of service on the board.
The plaque reads: "Our sincere appreciation for four years of loyalty, knowledge and effort in support of our students and district."
O'Brien said it was a great pleasure having Streich on the board.
"I'm going to miss you people, believe it or not," Streich said.
