The Elk County Commissioners started 2012 yesterday morning with several reorganizational meetings to begin the calendar year.
Elk County Commissioner Daniel R. Freeburg, who took over as chairperson a month ago, will continue until April 30, 2013, completing a 16-month term as chair. Freeburg will be followed by fellow commissioner June H. Sorg from May 1, 2013 to Aug. 31, 2014; incoming commissioner Janis E. Kemmer will serve as chairperson from Sept. 1, 2014 to Dec. 31, 2015.
Applications are still being accepted for drinking water sampling.
According to officials, Kelly Williams, a watershed specialist for Clearfield County, gave an update recently of the progress made and there is reportedly still enough room to accommodate more applicants in each county.
Interested participants are encouraged to contact Williams at kwilliamsccd@atlanticbbn.net or by phone at (814) 765-2629.
"There are funding and income level guidelines for this but because we're low, anyone who is interested in getting their water testing done should apply," Sorg said. "All applications will be taken, then if they haven't reached 100 they'll go through the applicants and see who qualifies and who is close to qualifying."
