October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the T-Bones Off Road Club has dedicated its 2011 Fall Ride to promote awareness.
"Let’s face it, we’ve all known someone, whether it be family, friend or relative, that has been touched by this disease," said Kellie Mocik, one of the event organizers. "Some of us have lost loved ones to breast cancer while others know a survivor or someone who is battling this horrible disease today."
The ride is open to any and all four-wheel drive vehicles and event organizers are planning to make a donation to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure foundation in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
"We encourage everyone to become knowledgeable about breast cancer and to take the necessary steps to stay healthy," Mocik said. "Monthly self breast exams and mammograms can catch cancer before it has a chance to spread, and this goes for the guys, too.
"It’s just as important for you to know you could be someone who gets breast cancer, so take the steps to ensure your health."
Mocik said there is a exorbitant amount of information on the subject and club officials had a strong desire to show support for awareness by holding a fall ride to raise funds for breast cancer research and awareness.
Anyone wishing to participate in this event is encouraged to RSVP to Mocik at 814-594-8978 or Janine Emerick at 814-335-8962.
"We are planning to leave the Ridgway Hospital parking lot at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, Oct. 15, and travel about 150 miles for this ride," Mocik said.
There is a low cost for this ride and interested patrons are urged to contact Mocik or Emerick immediately to inquire.
"Please keep in mind that a donation for breast cancer will be made from this ride," Mocik said. "We will also be stopping along the way for a bite to eat, so an RSVP is important so we have a head count for food.
"Also, we encourage everyone to show their support and wear pink, since that is the color associated with breast cancer."
Interested patrons also are encouraged to decorate their vehicle for this ride.
If you can’t make the ride but would still like to make a donation, please contact Mocik at 814-594-8978 or kellie@emmcoeast.org to make the arrangements.
"Please plan to attend this ride and hope for great weather," Mocik said. "We will try to make a stop at the new Kinzua Bridge overlook."
