Chester Paul Rutigliano
Chester Paul Rutigliano, 90, died Sunday, March 30, 2014 in Del Rio, Texas. He was born Aug. 19, 1923 in Ridgway, son of the late Paul and Micheline Rutigliano.He was a resident of Del Rio since 1964. Chester honorably served his country during World War II. At the age of 19, Chester volunteered for the service in the Army infantry. He was a member of Company M, 3rd. Battalion, 346th. Infantry Regiment with the 87th Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, the largest land battle of World War II, and the Battle of Siegfried Line. Along with the Bronze Star, Good Conduct, American Campaign, European African Middle East Campaign with 3 Bronze Service Stars, and the World War II Victory Medals, Chester received the Purple Heart for combat wounds received on the “last day of the war.”Chester was a familiar figure in Ridgway at the West End Superette, and in Del Rio at Lane’s Department Store, Del Rio National Bank, Meals on Wheels, the Rotary Club of Del Rio, Sacred Heart Parish, Chamber of Commerce, Elks Club and Knights of Columbus. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Rose Marie (Lindberg); daughters Paula Jarvis in San Antonio, Texas, and Becky Bradley in Hollister, Fla.; a sister, Philomena Manno, and a brother, Anthony Rutigliano, both of Ridgway; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Matthew Rutigliano; and sisters Lucy Azzano and Grace Zaffuto. A memorial service for Chester Paul Rutigliano will be held on Wednesday, April 9 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Del Rio, Texas.Military honors will be conducted by Fort Sam Houston National Honor Guard.In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to your favorite charity in Chester’s name.Please visit our website at www.sunsetfuneralhomes.com and sign our online guestbook.
