Cheryl M. Herzing, 57, of 111 Polk Ave., Ridgway, died unexpectedly Friday morning, Jan. 31, 2014 at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born Feb. 16, 1956 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Robert G. and Joyce M. (Wehler) Vogt Sr. She married Daniel F. Herzing Jr. on Aug. 19, 1983.
She had resided in Ridgway since 1981 and was a former St. Marys resident. She was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, the C.D. of A., a past St. Leo's Bingo Chairman, the Ridgway Little League, the Rocket Cheerleaders and the RAHS Gymnastics Boosters, and was also the caretaker of Yolonda Jeselinick.
She was a graduate of Elk County Christian High School and received an associate's degree in information systems from the University of Pittsburgh. Cheryl enjoyed crocheting, baking, bowling, playing bingo, picking huckleberries, watching baseball and golf and playing with her grandchildren. She had been employed by Walmart in the accounting department for 10 years.
Aside from her husband, surviving are three children: Nicole M. Johnson (Josh) of Reynoldsville, Eric T. Herzing of Ridgway, and Brett D. Herzing and his wife Becky of St. Marys; a grandson, Ace N. Johnson, a granddaughter, Campbell M. Johnson, a granddaughter-to-be, Lexy M. Herzing; the following brothers and sisters: Fr. Eric Vogt, OSB of St. Marys, Robert Vogt Jr. (Vicki) of St. Marys, Mike Vogt (Elaine) of St. Marys, Kenneth Vogt (Geraldine) of St. Marys, Dale Vogt (Jennifer) of St. Marys, John Vogt (Dawn) of St. Marys, Joe Vogt of St. Marys, Mary Jo Bolitski (Joe) of St. Marys, Judy Vogt of St. Marys, Christine Stauffer (Blaine) of Rome, N.Y., Emily Saline of St. Marys; numerous nieces and nephews; a mother-in-law, Betty Herzing; two sisters-in-law, Debbie Gradl (Jim) and Diane Carobine (Tom); and one brother-in-law, Duane Herzing.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a nephew, Robert Vogt III.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Cheryl M. Herzing will be offered at St. Leo Catholic Church on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Fr. Eric Vogt OSB, Pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Leo Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Monday, Feb. 3, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials, if desired, can be made to St. Leo Catholic Church or to St. Leo School, or to Sacred Heart Church, or to the Ridgway Public Library.
