Carmella R. Caggiano

Carmella R. Caggiano, 99, a resident of Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility in Ridgway, died at her residence on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014.
Carm was born in Ridgway on Aug. 6, 1914 to Ralph and Theresa Panetta Testa. She attended the Ridgway Public Schools.
She was a lifelong member of St. Leo's Church. On July 12, 1947, she married Sylvester Caggiano who preceded her in death on May 14, 1970. In her early years, she was employed at Stackpole Carbon Company in St. Marys and was a baker at the Bogert Hotel in Ridgway.
An active member in the community, Carmella was a volunteer and member of the Ridgway Hospital Auxiliary, St. Leo's funeral dinner committee, the Catholic Daughters of America, helped in the cafeteria at Elk County Catholic School, the Elk County Extension office, the local American Red Cross bloodmobiles, Daffodil Days for the American Cancer Society and along with her late sister Josephine Sorge, were the recipients of the 2002 WKBI Outstanding Citizen Award.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were a brother, Benjamin Testa; and four sisters, Josephine Sorge, Mary Miles, Jennie Reda and Betty Nardone.
Carmella was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors are numerous nieces and nephews, her close friends and her loving caregivers at Ridgmont.
A Funeral Mass for Carmella Caggiano will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at St. Leo's Catholic Church with the Rev. Eric Vogt presiding. There will be no visitation.
