Two brothers charged in a string of camp burglaries that stretched across Elk, Cameron, and McKean counties were seen in a pre-trial conference Monday before Judge Richard Masson at the Elk County Courthouse.
Daniel Anthony Aiello, 26, of Johnsonburg, and Mark Paul Kimes Aiello, 19, of Hazelhurst, are being charged with 132 counts of burglary and 32 counts of criminal mischief each.
The arrests came following an investigation conducted by the Ridgway-based Pa. State Police into 60 camp burglaries that occurred between Nov. 15, 2010 and Jan. 15, 2011. According to police, the two men allegedly forcibly gained entry to the camps using a metal implement and once inside proceeded to remove items, mostly tools. The two were apprehended on Jan. 4, 2010, when troopers on patrol in Bennezette Twp. came across their car in an area where a recent spate of camp burglaries had occurred. A subsequent search of their vehicle yielded a pry bar and reciprocating saw.
On Monday, Judge Masson granted the Commonwealth's motion to have charges from the three counties consolidated for trial purposes. Masson maintained that with the "joinder of the charges," the defendants will still be tried separately.
Jury selection has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on Feb. 13, 2012.
