Butler Co. jury to hear Donachy trial on Oct. 10

September 7, 2011

ST. MARYS – A trial date for Lawrence Earl Donachy, 36, of St. Marys, accused of the 1999 homicide of St. Marys beautician Irene Challingsworth, has been set for Monday, Oct. 10 beginning at 9 a.m. in the Elk County Courthouse in Ridgway.
The trial is expected to continue for 10 business days until Friday, Oct. 21.
Jury selection will take place in Butler County on Friday, Sept. 16, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Elk County President Judge Richard A. Masson approved a change of venue on March 18, 2011 due to the pre-trial publicity since the April 6, 1999 murder of Challingsworth, 57, in her Walnut Street home and salon.
The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania chose the trial's venue.
Donachy is being charged with one count each of homicide, rape, burglary, aggravated assault, criminal attempt at arson and unlawful restraint.
