JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Borough Council voted in favor of installing additional cameras on the Johnsonburg Borough Office building to decrease blind spots on the property.
During February's regular meeting council approved the installation of a surveillance system.
"The camera systems have been installed," said Johnsonnburg Police Chief Bryan Parana. "However, there may be a need to apply some more cameras depending on the costs. This is a large building and we can only cover so much area inside and out."
Borough Manager Mary Polaski said the additional cameras would cost $1,021.75. The total price for the surveillance system will cost about $4,500.
In other business, Parana reported that a train conductor of the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad was cited for blocking the intersection of Grant Street for a substantial period of time.
As a reminder, Parana reported on two recently passed Pennsylvania laws:
*Any motorist under the age of 18 must be wearing a seat belt.
"That is a primary violation," Parana said. "A police officer can stop you without probable cause; it's just reasonable suspicion."
*Motorists will risk fines if they text while driving.
Polaski said council will continue to work with General Code Publishers to update the code book.
"When this is all said and done, is this going to give us teeth?" asked council member James DeAngelo. " So we can go to these people and say you're in violation of this code."
Council member Ronald King said the code book is outdated and does not "match the economy and the standards today."
