Borough allots CDBG funds for retaining wall
The Borough of Ridgway will use money allotted from Community Development Block Grant Funds for the remainder of repairs to the 700-foot retaining wall along Front Street.The Borough was allotted $95,871 for financial fiscal year 2011."We completed about a third of it last year," said borough manager Martin Schuller. "We pressure-washed, stained and treated it."During Monday night's meeting council members approved to submit another application to the Department of Community & Economic Development to finish the last section of the wall.Repairs to the wall will begin in the fall. Schuller said he hopes to have the entire project finished in the summer of 2012."Initially we had our preliminary report months ago and we were to get $45,000 and this is quite a bit better," Schuller said.In other business, after a special meeting was held on Sept. 6 to discuss the possibility of contracting CSG Consulting out of Clarion to market the Borough's water to drilling operators, it was later decided that the borough will not be contracting their services.Pick up a copy of the Thursday, Sept. 24, 2011 edition of The Ridgway Record for more.
