Betty Louise Casolo

Betty Louise Casolo, 87, of 101 N. Mill Ave., Ridgway, died at her residence on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 17, 1925 in St. Marys, the daughter of the late Anthony and Flora Minard Gerg. On Nov. 26, 1947, she married John F. Casolo Sr., who preceded her in death on May 4, 2006.
Mrs. Casolo attended St. Marys Catholic School, was a resident of Ridgway since 1947, and was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church. She worked at Sylvania in Emporium and Quality Components in Daguscahonda, retiring after 30-plus years of service. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a kind and very generous person and had a gentleness in her heart that brought joy to everyone who knew her. She prayed faithfully every morning, always remembering the needs of others. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting, and gardening, but her passion was music and dancing.
She is survived by three children, Joan Klase, Elizabeth Casolo and John Casolo Jr. (Christine), all of Ridgway; six grandchildren, Christopher Klase (Susie) and Karen Copello (Gino) of Ridgway, Matthew Casolo of Waynesboro, Mark Casolo of Ridgway, Philip Casolo of Annapolis, Md., and David Casolo of Harrisburg; five great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Nathan Klase, and Nicholas and Gianna Copello of Ridgway, and Gavin Casolo of St. Marys.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Schaut, Edna Butterfuss, and Mary Foringer; five brothers, Byron, Harry, Arnold, and Robert and William Gerg; and by a son-in-law, Robert Klase. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Louise Casolo will be celebrated at St. Leo’s Catholic Church on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Fr. Theodore Marconi. Interment will be in St. Leo’s Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ridgway Ambulance Corp., 120 N. Broad St., Ridgway, PA 15853; or to the Community Nurses, 757 Johnsonburg Rd., St. Marys, PA 15857; or to charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home.
