Area schools in lockdown Wednesday morning

ST. MARYS – The St. Marys City Police Department reported responding to a suspicious person report near Kerner Avenue and Louis Street at approximately 8:20 a.m. Wednesday morning. The report indicated that the subject in question might be in the possession of a handgun. According to police, city and area law enforcement officials conducted an investigation while area schools and Elk Regional Health Center went into lockdown. City police are continuing their investigation into this incident, and anyone with information is asked to contact police at 781-1315.
According to county and school system emergency alerts, the lockdown ended at 10:10 a.m. The St. Marys City Police were assisted by Elk County Sheriff Department deputies, Ridgway Borough Police and Johnsonburg Borough Police.
