JOHNSONBURG – Area residents are now shaken to the core after the vacant St. Joe's Club in Johnsonburg went up in flames early Monday morning.
The fire, ruled an arson, is the second mysterious fire in four days in Johnsonburg and reportedly broke out shortly after midnight on Monday. Reports indicate the fire started on a second-floor wooden porch and quickly spread throughout the building.
The structure, which has been vacant for approximately two years, is located at 703 Market St. in Johnsonburg. Fire departments from Wilcox, Johnsonburg, Ridgway and St. Marys were called shortly after 12:30 a.m. St. Marys Area Ambulance Service also assisted at the scene.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries while fighting the fire. It took officials barely 12 hours to rule the fire an arson.
Area residents are on edge as this is the fifth major fire to occur in the last month.
