March 19, 2012 marked the one-year anniversary of the fire that devastated the streets of Ridgway. Now the long awaited completion of the Chinese Restaurant is finally coming to a close.
“The Aiello building is just about completed,” said Michelle Bogacki, Main Street Manager, during the March regular meeting of the Ridgway Borough Council held Monday. “The Chinese Restaurant should be opening any day.”
Ridgway Mayor Dr. Guillermo Udarbe added the final inspection was held on Monday, and the grand opening is slated for the end of March.
In other news, Udarbe reported regarding a letter he sent to Pennsylvania State Senator Joe Scarnati (R-25) asking for his support for a housing project at the Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility. Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility, a personal care home, would reportedly like to construct a neighborhood of 20 housing units that are affordable for low to moderate income older adults. “This would give the residents the opportunity to continue to live in their homes and receive care,” Udarbe said. “Ridgmont has applied for funding from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency in the past without success, and I am hoping Senator Scarnati will help them get funded.”
Borough Manager Martin Schuller reported under resolution No. 3 – 2012 that the borough has been classified as an entitlement community under Act 176 of 1984 and the borough of Ridgway has been allotted Community Development Block Grant funds in the amount of $80,528.00 for Financial Fiscal Year 2012. Schuller says the funds will be used for demolition of some blighted properties, code enforcement and possible resurfacing of Gillis Avenue.
