Alyce J. Bowers

Alyce J. Bowers, age 73, of 224 Cook Ave., Ridgway, died early Monday morning, Nov. 7, 2011, at Elk Haven Nursing Home follow a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 14, 1938 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Burton (Bud) and Ruth E. (Gier) Blair. She married Roger K. Bowers on July 1, 1961, he survives. She had resided in Ridgway for the last nine years and was a former Vineland, N.J. resident.
She was a 1956 graduate of Ridgway High School, a 1959 graduate of the Hamot Hospital School of Nursing, attended Penn State University for two years where she met her husband Roger, graduated from Rutgers University then received her Master's in Library Science from Rutgers University.
She was a board member and treasurer of the Elk County Historical Society, a board member of the Ridgway Public Library, a board member of the Laurel Mill Golf Course and a member of the Ridgway Rotary Club. She had been employed as the director of the Atlantic County Library System for 14 years, and had also previously been employed by the Rockaway Township Library for 18 years.
Surviving besides her husband is one daughter, Jennifer L. Cerequas and her husband Fred of Lansdale; one granddaughter, Emily Cerequas of Lansdale; one grandson, Christopher Cerequas of Lansdale; one sister, Martha L. Blair and her husband Larry Glantz of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; and two nieces and three nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Blair.
Funeral and committal services for Alyce J. Bowers will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Erik Hart, Pastor of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Oakmont Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Ridgway Public Library at 329 Center St., Ridgway, Pa. 15853, or to the Elk County Historical Society at 329 Center St., Ridgway, Pa. 15853, or to the Ridgway Ambulance Corp. at 120 N. Broad St., Ridgway, Pa. 15853.
