Alfred E. Shippling
Alfred E. Shippling, 81, of 721 Evergreen Road, St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 31, 1931, in Johnsonburg, son of the late Adolph and Luisa Granitza Shippling. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, class of 1949. He also graduated Williamsport Technical Institute in 1956. He was a retired employee of the Keystone Carbon Co., retiring in 1995 after over 35 years of service.On May 27, 1961 in the Queen of the World Church, he married Patricia R. Herzing and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Nancy Hoffman and her husband Neil of Ridgway, Susan Williams and her husband John of State College, Beth Peach and her husband Cameron of Stokesdale, N.C.; two sons, James A. Shippling and his wife of Karen of Erie and John M. Shippling and his wife Christine of Morongo, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, Andrea Hoffman, Joseph Hoffman, Luke Hoffman, Jonathan Shippling, Taylor Shippling, Zachary Williams, Benjamin Williams, Melanie Peach, Allison Peach and Tanner Peach; two sisters, Ethel Kanski and her husband Bernard "Boot" of Johnsonburg and Edith Freeburg of Leominster, Mass.; one brother, Myles Shippling and his wife Judy of St. Marys; two sister-in-laws, Greta Shippling of Riverdale, Md. and Louise "Tut" Shippling of Johnsonburg; and by several nieces and nephews.Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Heiney, Otto and Richard Shippling.Shippling was a member of the United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, his garden and spending time with his family. He liked helping his kids with their projects and loved playing with his grandchildren.Funeral Services will be held in the United Methodist Church on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Chris Kindle, pastor officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemens Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Cemetery.
