Alfred (Al) Caldwell Sr.

Alfred (Al) Caldwell Sr., of 10618 Timberlin Rd., Chesterfield, Va., passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 17, 2012.
Born on June 3, 1936, in Johnsonburg, he was the son of the late Hudnell and Lula (DeLong) Caldwell. He was married to Gail K. Caldwell, who survives.
Al graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1954. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served for three years. After leaving the service, he was employed at the Ubel Furniture Store in Johnsonburg and later at Grimone’s Furniture Store in Emporium.
In 1972, Al moved to Virginia. He was employed by several different companies, which included Mason’s Department Store and Reynolds Aluminum. From 1997 through 2012, Al worked for DMA Floors in Richmond, Virginia.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Mrs. Daniel Harris (Rose Marie) of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; Alfred Caldwell Jr. and wife Cindy of Sandston, Va.; Mrs. Paul Moore (Wendy) of Newport News, Va.; and five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Hudnell Caldwell Jr. and his wife Shirley of Johnsonburg; Mark Caldwell and his wife Sharon of Rantoul, Ill.; four sisters, Mrs. Paul Rovnak (Dawn) of Lake Placid, Fla.; Mrs. Robert Lorigan (Anna Mae) of Orient, Maine, Mrs. Edward Piccirillo (Emma Lou) of Ashville, N.C.; and Thyra Caldwell of Littleton, Colo.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Caldwell Rogers; a brother-in-law, Merrill Melquist Rogers; and two sisters in infancy.
A celebration of Al’s memorable life was held on Aug. 24, 2012, in Richmond, Va.
