ACS seeking drivers for program
ST. MARYS – Officials for the American Cancer Society, Inc. [ACS] are hoping that the new year will also bring new volunteer drivers for the Road to Recovery program. The initiative provides rides to patients who have no way to get to their cancer treatment at a medical facility. Volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their cars to get a patient to and from the facility that they need to travel to for treatment."It's a free program for cancer patients seeking treatment," said Shane Launer, community resources navigator for the East Central Division of ACS. "We provide transportation to and from the hospital, and one person can get up to 40 days' worth of rides."ACS trains drivers and schedules rides for patients. To arrange a ride, call 1-800-227-2345. Patients must give 48 hours' notice, as ACS officials must have time to plan and schedule a driver.
