Peterson named Offensive MVP as Olean Oilers win NYCBL title

As the 2015 New York Collegiate Baseball League's (NYCBL) regular season drew to a close, there was some uncertainty as to whether the Olean Oilers would even make the postseason. Only the top four teams in each division received a playoff berth, and at one point the Oilers had slipped all the way to fifth in the seven-team Western Division standings. A late-season rally changed all that, as the Oilers won eight of their final 10 games to clinch the third seed in the Western Division playoffs.

PRPA Gold wins smallbore hunting rifle crown

Team PRPA Gold won the smallbore hunting rifle national team championship with a score of 209 at the NRA National Silhouette Championships held Monday afternoon at the Ridgway Rifle Club.
The team finished with a score of 209 with team members David Leedy, Luke Johnson and Kenneth M. Haupricht sharing the team title.

Goetsch wins first two days in hunting rifle

Make it 2 for 2 for Laura Goetsch in smallbore hunting rifle.
The Whites Creek, Tenn. native finished with a score of 38 to win the second day of competition with that firearm at the NRA National Silhouette Championships Monday afternoon at the Ridgway Rifle Club.
Goetsch’s victory didn’t come easy as she had to win a five-shot shootoff with Marysville native Luke Johnson to win the match. Both competitors had matching scores of 38 and both hit 10 chickens, 10 pigs, eight turkeys and 10 rams.

Minor all-stars come up short in state title bid

BRADFORD – The St. Marys Minor League all-star softball team saw their magical season come to an end on Sunday afternoon with a pair of losses to Morrisville in the finals of the Minor League State Tournament at the Kessel Athletic Complex at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. St. Marys entered Sunday afternoon needing one win to clinch the state title. Instead, Morrisville won 3-0 to force a deciding game. Morrisville then won the second game 5-0 to win the state title.

Goetsch sweeps opening day at Silhouette Championships

Laura Goestch (Whites Creek, Tenn.) was the first-day match winner in smallbore standard rifle at the NRA National Silhouette Championships Sunday at the Ridgway Rifle Club.
Goestch finished with a total of 36. Goetsch hit eight chickens, nine pigs, all 10 turkeys and nine rams to comprise her totals.
Brian Wakefield of Smethport was second overall with a score of 35 (10-9-8-8) and Cathy Winstead-Severin of Joplin, Mo. was third with a score of 35 (9-10-6-10).

N.Y. All-Stars down Pennsylvania in Big 30 Classic

BRADFORD — Area high school football fans got their last chance to see 2015 graduates on the field at Saturday night’s 42nd Annual Don Raabe Big 30 Classic on Bradford High’s Parkway Field. Pennsylvania scored the first points of the game on a safety and the final points on a touchdown by Kane’s John English, but New York scored all of the 44 points in between as the Empire State all-stars improved to 22-18-2 in the series with a 44-8 win.

Ridgway Rifle Club ready for NRA National Silhouette Championships

The Ridgway Rifle Club will once again host the NRA National Silhouette Championships this coming week at the Rifle Club’s smallbore and high power ranges.
The smallbore events will open on Sunday morning and the three-day competition will last until Tuesday. Action each day starts between 9 and 9:15 a.m. and lasts throughout the afternoon.
The high power events are scheduled to start on Thursday at around 9 a.m., that competition is scheduled to last until Saturday. There will be a smallbore warmup match on Saturday which is a club match.

Minor all-stars to play for state title Sunday

To say that this has been a good year for softball in St. Marys would be an understatement.
Both high school teams had good seasons in the spring, and the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders won the PIAA Class A state title. Now, another local team is looking to join them as state champions, but this time it is the nine-and 10-year-old members of the St. Marys Minor League all-star softball team.
The team has been putting together an incredible run this summer and is currently undefeated.

Minor all-stars advance to state title game

The St. Marys Minor League all-star softball team punched their ticket to the Minor League state championship game with a 3-1 victory over Morrisville in the final of the winners' bracket on Thursday evening at the Kessell Athletic Complex at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
So far in the tournament, St. Marys has outscored their opponents 28-2. They defeated Caln Township 11-1 in their opening game, and then beat Warrington 14-0 in the winners' bracket semifinals. Thursday's victory was the team's closest of the tournament.

Young throws no-hitter, Minor all-stars win 14-0

BRADFORD – With the start of their game two hours behind schedule, the St. Marys Minor League all-star softball team played just about as quick of a game as possible against Warrington, coming up with a 14-0 victory in four innings to advance to the final of the winners' bracket tonight in the Minor League State Tournament. The tournament is being held at the Kessel Athletic Complex at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Kendall Young continued to be stellar in the circle, throwing a no-hitter and striking out nine of the 12 batters she faced.
